Coca Cola Sugar Tax Impact - How Does The Tax Work?

Coca Cola Sugar Tax Impact - How Does The Tax Work?

Recently we have been hearing news about the coca cola sugar tax. The thing is, these fizzy drink companies have to pay a certain amount of tax if they have exceeded a certain amount of sugar in their drinks.

From the year April 2018, these fizzy drink companies are being taxed with 18p on each liter for those drinks which have more than 5 grams of sugar in every 100 ml of them. Those drinks which have more than 8 grams of sugar in every 100 ml are being charged with 24p on each liter.

This law and order put the fizzy drinks companies in to deep thought because their products used to contain huge amounts of sugar in their drinks. This sugar is what used to make their products worth selling as well as delicious. However, this move and order had an aim and that was to avoid childhood obesity, prevent tooth decay and to prevent the widespread illness such as diabetes.

How has the Coca cola and other fizzy drink companies reduced their sugar content?

More than half of the fizzy drink companies have reduced down a great level of sugar in their drinks. Brands like Fanta, lucozade and others have agreed upon reducing the sugar content in the drinks however, Coca cola and Pepsi have not agreed upon reducing the sugar content in their fizzy drinks.

These two drink companies are keeping the same 11 and 10.6 grams of sugar in their 100 ml of drinks. The fizzy drink companies who have reduced down the sugar content do not have to pay the tax but Coca cola has to pay the tax since it is not reducing the content of sugar from their drinks.

However, it is expected that with time and soon, the Coca cola company will also reduce down the sugar level from its drink.

Coca cola all set to reduce the level of sugar in their drink

The Coca cola company is all set to reduce down the level of sugar in their fizzy drinks and bringing it down to a very low level of sugar in it. This was because of the public appeals for healthy drinks as well as due to the imposition of tax.

Sugar taxes will be imposed in more than thirty countries by this years end and this includes countries such as UK, Mexico as well as Ireland. This is to fight obesity, child health, and to fight off the widespread illness diabetes.

The managing director of Coca cola company Alison Watkins said that she did not believe that the taxes of sugar imposed improve the public health at all. Nevertheless, the Coca cola company introduced the zero sugar version of its cold drink and announced that they would be using the famous no calorie sweetener stevia in the cold drinks to cut down the sugar content.

The reductions in sugar content in the fizzy drinks was making a positive impact on the overall health in many countries. Since the fizzy drink companies wanted to avoid paying the tax, they did think as well as implemented on seriously cutting down on the sugar content in these drinks.

In the United states of America, Coca cola is widely used. However, every 2 out of 5 people over there face obesity or diabetes. This has been increasing since the last few years and this is why it is very important that the fizzy drink companies seriously accept this decision and cut down on the sugar content in these fizzy drinks.

Drink Coca cola, but wisely!

It is true that the Coca cola company has cut down on the sugar content in their fizzy drinks, it is still a fact these fizzy drinks aren’t entirely healthy or even worth drinking. You should avoid drinking them specially if you are habitual of them.

Once or twice a week is just more than fine but not more than that. For children specially, these fizzy drinks should be avoided as they do not cause a good impact on their health.

There are many diseases that can be caused by unlimited drinking of these fizzy drinks which is why it is always better to be cautious.
