Reviewing the IRS2Go Application

Reviewing the IRS2Go Application

Due to the progress of technology, filing your taxes is not as complicated anymore as it was once. Nowadays, many tax filers complete their returns online or through mobile applications. The IRS (Internal Revenue Service) released its mobile application in 2011. Although it is still impossible to file tax returns on the app, the IRS2Go application can make the tax filing process easier to navigate. Let's take a look at how it works.

IRS2GO Application: The Basics

The IRS2Go application is the official application of the Internal Revenue Service. It is easy to use and has different characteristics. For example, you can use the application to make a tax payment, check the status of tax refunds and tax-free training services.

The IRS offers free tax advice every day during the tax season and three times a week during the summer. Throughout the year, they tend to send important details and explain the policies that affect taxpayers. If you register to receive these tax cards via the IRS2Go application, you will get information about e-filing and tax credits sent directly to the email box.

You can also use the application to find phone numbers from the IRS local offices and follow the IRS on social networks. In addition to its Twitter profile, the IRS has a YouTube channel and a Tumblr account.

Downloading the IRS2Go application

Low on cash for a subscription? Not a problem. It is free to download the IRS2Go app, and it is available in English and Spanish.

You can find the IRS2Go app on the Google PlayStore and Apple App Store. The IRS2Go app is also on Amazon.

Tax Payments

If you owe the IRS (Internal Revenue Service) money, you can use the IRS2Go application to pay for your taxes. The IRS Direct Payment takes payment directly from your savings or current account and immediately allows you to know when the payment has been submitted. It's also free.

If you prefer to make a debit payment or credit card payment, you can do it via the IRS2Go application as well. The payment system reserves the right to charge fees, but it can be deductible in some cases.

When you are ready to make payment, you can press the "Payments" button on the application. If you want to know the other payment options (such as monthly payment or trying to pay less than the amount you should), the application provides a link to this information.

Checking your refund status

You can find out more about the federal tax refund status by pressing the "Refund Status" button. To see if the refund is on the way, you must enter your social security number, tax filing status, and the anticipated refund amount.

The IRS says that it sends the most tax refunds in less than 21 days. If you have sent the tax return, you can check the status of your refund within 24 hours. However, if a tax return has been filed, you may not know where your refund is for about four weeks.

Note that there is no more than one way to check the tax refund status. The Internal Revenue Service offers a refund tool. If you do not receive a refund in 21 days after filing electronically or more than six weeks after filing a paper return, it may be necessary to communicate with the IRS by phone.

Get free tax assistance.

If you are disabled, speak only English or earn less than $57,000 a year, you can benefit from the free financial service through the voluntary income tax assistance (VITA) program. The IRS has authorized some individuals to help taxpayers complete the tax return electronically and respond to basic tax matters. Also, the IRS offers a special program for elderly Americans (60 years of age or older) who can't file their taxes.

Tax counseling for the elderly and VITA are located in schools, social centers, shopping centers, and other places across the country. You can use the IRS app to find one near you. If you do not qualify for TCE or VITA, you can find a local self-preparation site that enables some people to file their taxes for free using the help of an IRS-certified volunteer.

Bottom Line

The IRS2Go application can benefit taxpayers who must send a payment or find out when their refund will arrive while on the go. People who do not have time to understand the complicated IRS site may like the app.

Of course, the application has its limits. It does not offer half of the tools you find on the IRS website. In addition, users can worry about their confidentiality. The government claims that the app is safe, but it is unclear whether a scammer can access private tax information if the user fails to clear their screen.
