About Elrod Tax Service

I have been involved in the income tax business most of my life. My father earned his BS in Accounting in December 1976, 8 months after my birth; he immediately began as an income tax preparer for another firm in January of the following year. In 1983, my father went into business for himself, and my "career" was launched. When not in school, I served coffee to clients and ran files between my father and my mother (who processed all returns). As years passed, I began to process returns and acted as receptionist and scheduler.

After completing high school, I, naturally, ran in the opposite direction from income tax. I completed my BS at Jacksonville State University with a double major in Criminal Justice (concentration in Forensics) and Biology; the following year I completed my MS in Criminal Justice and began the MS program in Forensic Chemistry at Southeast Missouri State University. After one semester in Missouri, I realized I truly was not happy with the path I had chosen. I came home, in more ways than one.

I started working for my father again. He trained me in preparing income tax returns, and I loved the work I was doing! I was able to help him adapt practices to make things run more efficiently (one of the benefits of being a child of the computer age), and, by the end of 2007, I was able to buy my father's practice from him, and now, he works for me.

Being a stickler for rules and regulations, I went back to school in 2010, and completed my BS in Accounting in 2012. I also completed RTRP requirements in 2012; although the program is no longer in effect, the IRS does still recognize the designation. I also participate in the IRS' Annual Filing Season Program, which requires specified continuing education every year.

When my father began this business, it was all family who worked here, and every client coming in the door was treated as family. Today, I am proud to say this has remained the same.
